The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK)is currently recruiting for multiple Licensed Practical Nurse, limited-term employment (LTE) positions to support the King Nursing team. WVHK is a long-term-care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O' Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.

Position Summary

Under the limited supervision of a Nursing Supervisor, under the direction of the Nurse Clinician 2 (RN), this is objective-level licensed practical nursing work.  The position is responsible for providing routine direct and indirect patient care for geriatric and/or disabled members at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK), working directly with members and families.  The incumbent receives specific direction and assists professional-level healthcare providers in complex situations.

 

Nursing services are provided in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act; American Nurses Association and Gerontological Nursing Standards; federal and state statutes and administrative rules; U.S. Veterans Affairs (VA) regulations; and the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) and WVHK.  The work is characterized by the technical knowledge of patient care, observation, treatments and medications.  The incumbent is expected to meet specific technical nursing requirements and to make critical observations of members.

Salary Information

The pay for this position is $28.56 - $33.81 per hour with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.

 

This job does not offer employee benefits.

 

The position is in pay schedule-pay range 06-05.

 

This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details

These are flexible part-time positions with the option to pick up additional hours as desired with no required overtime. Shifts are available AM, PM, NOC, holidays and weekends. Candidate preferences gathered at time of interview.

 

LTE jobs are limited to 1039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits.

 

Job duties require the ability to assist in patient mobility efforts, stand and/or walk up to 75% of eight-hour day to provide assessments, kneel, stoop, make visual observations, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, maintain hygiene, use special safety equipment, and wear protective clothing.

 

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

 

Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will hold or be eligible for a license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or a Nurse Licensure Compact state.

 

In addition to the LPN requirement, minimally qualified applicants will have experience: 

  • Providing basic nursing care; and
  • Administering medications and basic treatments; and
  • Working independently & collaboratively; and
  • Using professional communication; and
  • Using computers and applications

 

Well-qualified applicants will also have experience: 

  • Providing advanced practical nursing care; and/or
  • Performing nursing duties in a long-term care, geriatric, skilled nursing, or other relevant setting
